There's just something about gardens that pull me in to take a second look. Through some photos you can almost smell the fresh grass and hear the sounds of insects in a lush garden.
My first attempt at doing an ink drawing with colour pencil:
Hiho, I think the subject has too many unwieldy details which makes it most difficult for you to try to capture. The camera has the advantage dealing with the intricate details and also the lighting. I think you got most of it but you might want to try a picture with less overwhelming details... my 20 cents worth :)
I think you are quite right, I felt the ink drawing was much better before I added in the color which sadly came across as washed out and nothing like the vibrant magazine pic. I have now chosen a more simple picture and experimenting with the color aspects step by step, tell me what you think of the Milan secret reading corner :)
